I hadn’t planned to make this panned sequence of former Reading Company 4-8-4 2102 as it charged west of Nesquehoning, Pa., near Lake Haut on the former Central Railroad of New Jersey.
I had envisioned a less dynamic, straightforward view of the locomotive—frozen in motion—with its rods down. But then, at the last second, some oaf stood in front of me, forcing me to improvise.
Such are the challenges of photographing popular steam locomotives on the move!
