30 Years ago in CTC Board

In November 1989, I had my first CTC Board Cover Feature on Conrail’s Boston & Albany.

Ironically, I received my contributor’s copy a few weeks after I’d moved to California.

I found a copy of the magazine yesterday while digging around for a missing notebook from the 1980s.

Cover photo exposed using my Leica M2 with 35mm lens on Kodachrome 25 slide film—Conrail TV8B at CP-79 east of Palmer, Massachusetts.

A favorite issue from my favorite magazine. I have every issue of CTC Board and Railroads Illustrated from the time they switched to color until they were absorbed by Railfan & Railroad, which luckily has adopted many of its features.

  4. CTC Board was an American railroad Magazine. Originally focused on the West, but by 1987 had expanded to cover North America west and east. In 1989 it was published by HyRail, edited by Dale Sanders and Mark Hemphill. In later incarnations it was published by Hundeman, and White River Publishing. It went through several name changes and was eventually melded into Railfan & Railroad, perhaps 4 or 5 years ago. In the 1980s, it was noted for its excellent color reproduction, at a time when color tended to appear relatively muddy in other railroad magazines.

Brian what was the CTC Board, a magazine, newsletter or a Conrail employee magazine?
