11 Photos of the Emerald Isle Express at Connolly Station, Dublin.

Monday, 25 September 2017 saw the launch of this year’s week-long Emerald Isle Express sponsored by Railtours Ireland.

The train consisted of Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s preserved Cravens carriages hauled by Irish Rail class 071 locomotive number 073 recently repainted in a heritage orange livery.

It was a fine bright morning and I made these photos from Platform 5 at Connolly Station using my Lumix LX7 and FujiFilm digital cameras.

  1. Wonderful collection of subjects and perspectives.

  2. Hi Phil,
f2.0 describes the widest aperture of the lens; thus my f2.0 90mm is a ‘fast’ 90 with an f2.o maximum aperture. This is one way that lens manufacturers describe their lenses to help distinguish between different lenses of the same focal length. While the 90mm is a fixed focal length (or ‘prime’) lens (in other words it is not a ‘zoom’ lens) the aperture is adjustable. In some of the photos I was working wide open (at f2.0) which allows for shallow depth of field and thus can be used for selective focus. I hope this helps. Brian

  3. Brian: I’m unclear as to your lens. Are they all fixed f2.0 or are the @2.0?
    thanks!
    Phil
