Tracking the Light Extra: Irish Railway Record Society Special at Connolly, 9 April 2016.

Yesterday morning, Saturday 9 April 2016, I made this panoramic composite image at Connolly Station featuring the Irish Railway Record Society ‘071 class two-day 40th anniversary railtour.

(If you are not viewing Tracking the Light directly, you may need to click the link to the site to get the full effect of the panorama.)

I traveled on this epic and ambitious diesel-hauled special and I’m presently downloading the hundreds of digital photos I exposed of the trains and the people involved with it.

More soon!

thanks, I spent three years in Wroclaw Poland and traveled extensively in Europe, (always looking at trains of coarse) and had never seen that arrangement before with a platform.

  2. Ireland’s railways are atypical of European electrification; except for DART suburban service in greater Dublin (Malahide to Greystones, plus Howth branch) the rest of the lines are diesel powered (either with railcars or locomotives). While DART trains serve Dublin Connolly, these have no need to access all platforms, especially those used by the Dublin-Belfast Enterprise. However, DART routes share tracks with diesel services so there is some overlap. BS.

I find it quite unusual to see only one of the lines in that station electrified. I spent a couple of years in Europe and it is not unusual to see a diesel on these lines, but a station with two platforms with only one line electrified is not something I would ever expect to see.
