A few weeks ago, I located this old Kodachrome slide among a selection of slides I’d rejected as ‘bad.’ I only held on to it as an ‘abstract’ that I thought I might be able to incorporate into something at a later date.

Using Lightroom, I was able to mask the sky, reduce haze, and improve the saturation, contrast, and exposure. The results are something less than I’d be able to obtain today using my Nikon Z cameras and modern digital processing, but they are well worthy of presentation here.

The subject matter fascinates me now: a Conrail GP10 leading a local freight west on the Water Level Route across the ice-encrusted Genesee Falls in January 1989. I exposed this Kodachrome 25 slide using my Leica M2 with a 50mm Summicron lens.
