In 2010 we traveled from Santa Barbara to San Diego on Amtrak’s historic Pacific Surfliner route.
‘The Chicago Tribune’ had featured this ride some months earlier, prompting us to try it out.
We departed Santa Barbara observing some wonderful vistas along the Pacific coastline.
An unanticipated treat — at least for me but not for my wife (who resorted to reading ‘The New Yorker’ was the trains jog through the vast industrialized zones of Los Angeles. This ended with a 20 minutes stop at LA Union Station, where a goodly number of exits and boarding occurred.
Eventually as we made our way toward San Diego we regained glimpses of the coastline. We enjoyed seeing various coastal communities, with all of their attendant activities.
