This is a follow up to my Tracking the Light post of December 23, 2016, where I explained that on Wednesday December 21, 2016, Otto Vondrak sent me the sad news that the old station at Berlin, Connecticut had been gutted by fire.
This was reported as a ‘total loss.’
I generally avoid accidents, derailment sites, and fires. However, a few weeks ago, I decided I should take a look at the remains of the Berlin station before the scene was made unrecognizable.
I savor the memories of my 21 years at the Berlin station. Although the fire and its results were like loosing a close friend, I feel for the people of the town of Berlin who had supported having the building renovated and now have only memories.
I certainly hope the cause of the fire will be determined and publicized. Those renovating the Windsor Locks station should pay particular attention to this case.
