Busy Night on the Port Road Branch

Some nights, we catch a Norfolk Southern unit coal train working east on the Port Road Branch toward Perryville, Maryland, en route to Baltimore.

One night, about two weeks ago, we caught not one, but three unit coal trains!

This was the first one we saw, approaching the intermediate automatic signals near milepost 35 in Washington Boro, PA. The next one wasn’t far behind.

Exposed using my Nikon Z6-III with Nikkor Z 24-70mm Nikkor zoom mounted on 3Pod tripod. ISO 25,800, f4.0 1/8 second, auto white balance. That is the moon peaking behind the old catenary supports at the center of the image.
