It was the day after Conrail began single-tracking the Boston &amp; Albany route. On July 21, 1986, track forces had cut in CP83 at Palmer, and CP92 in Springfield, removing the old number 1 (westward) track from service.<\/p>\n<p>The remains of the second diamond crossing with Central Vermont are in the foreground.
