In May 1988, I stood on a hill near Bullards Road in Hinsdale, Massachusetts, just west of Washington Summit, to photograph an eastward Conrail freight on the Boston Line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This group of four loaded coal hoppers caught my attention: one each from B&O, C&O, Western Maryland, and Seaboard System. At the time, it represented the short history of CSX Transportation!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What a concept: freight cars owned by railroads and not covered in third-party paint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
