Leica M2 in hand, I made this pacing view while racing along with a westward Delaware & Hudson freight in New York\u2019s Canisteo Valley on April 16, 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York, Susquehanna & Western\u2014Susquehanna for short\u2014had been appointed the designated operator of the D&H after Guilford ceased operating the line in June 1988.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a couple of years, NYS&W locomotives were common on D&H freights such as this ABBU (Albany to Buffalo), which was running via trackage rights over Conrail\u2019s former Erie Railroad main line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tributary Fun Fact:<\/strong> Although I was many miles from the Susquehanna River, the Canisteo River is a tributary of the Chemung, which flows into the Susquehanna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
