My birthday has been a great opportunity to get great photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, I was up early and drove to Gap, Pa., where I hoped to find peak foliage. My enthusiasm was high, but the sun was still below the horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amtrak Keystone <\/em>605 <\/em> was due, and I needed to get a bit creative. So I set my Nikon’s Z7-II’s ISO to 4000 in order to use a fast enough shutter speed to stop the train rolling by a bright red-orange tree in the early morning light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in my Kodachrome days I would have settled for a blur of the train and tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this October birthday morning, I used a shutter speed of 1\/800th of a second, which stopped the action nicely. The tree and train made for some nice colors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
