On this day eleven years ago, I was with a gang of photographers poised at the beginning of Irish Rail’s quad track in west suburban Dublin at Cherry Orchard. We were aiming to catch the elusive empty long welded rail train on its run west toward Portlaoise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was led by locomotive 071, the class leader of Irish Rail’s 1970s-vintage 071 fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working with my Canon EOS-7D and 200mm Canon AF lens, I made these cross-lit photos from the pedestrian bridge over the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve said this before, and its true, there’s neither cherries nor orchards at Cherry Orchard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
