{"id":27512,"date":"2019-08-14T08:22:57","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T12:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/briansolomon.com\/trackingthelight\/?p=27512"},"modified":"2019-08-14T08:46:22","modified_gmt":"2019-08-14T12:46:22","slug":"moat-creek-trestle-and-a-bear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/briansolomon.com\/trackingthelight\/moat-creek-trestle-and-a-bear\/","title":{"rendered":"Moat Creek Trestle and a Bear!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I\u2019d been eying Conway Scenic\u2019s wooden pile Moat Creek trestle as a good afternoon photo location since I arrived at the railroad in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While I\u2019d made a variety of angles from West Side Road that runs parallel to the line, until last Friday (August 9, 2019) I hadn\u2019t hiked into the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As discussed in yesterday\u2019s post \u2018Rare Move During My Signing\u2014GP9 works the yard,\u2019 the necessity to move a few old freight cars posed some unusual photographic opportunities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-tracking-the-light\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"euxVGIGhdQ\"><a href=\"http:\/\/briansolomon.com\/trackingthelight\/2019\/08\/13\/rare-move-during-my-signing-gp9-works-the-yard\/\">Rare Move During My Signing\u2014GP9 works the yard.<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe title=\"&#8220;Rare Move During My Signing\u2014GP9 works the yard.&#8221; &#8212; Tracking the Light\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"http:\/\/briansolomon.com\/trackingthelight\/2019\/08\/13\/rare-move-during-my-signing-gp9-works-the-yard\/embed\/#?secret=euxVGIGhdQ\" data-secret=\"euxVGIGhdQ\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When I learned that GP7 573 would be hauling a flatcar down to Conway, New Hampshire for storage, I decided this would make for my opportunity to catch a train in low afternoon sun on the Moat Creek Trestle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Old 573 was whistling for a crossing just north of the bridge when I heard loud rustling in a tree opposite the tracks from my location. A sizeable bear climbed down out of the tree and ambled through the undergrowth about a car-length from my position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, I\u2019d selected a prime 27mm lens to frame the train on the bridge and this lens was less than ideal for photographing the bear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photographs of the train and bear were exposed about a minute apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
