Today, 14 October 2017, is the date of the long anticipated Munster Double tour (operated by the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland in conjunction with Irish Rail), so I thought I\u2019d run these images from 2006 when I photographed Irish Rail 080 working a Dublin-Tralee passenger train passing Limerick Junction.<\/p>\n

On Friday, 13 January 2006, David Hegarty and I had been photographing Irish Rail\u2019s sugar beet trains. Toward the end of the daylight we found ourselves at Limerick Junction in time to catch the Friday only \u2018down Kerry\u2019 that was still regularly worked with steam-heated Cravens carriages.<\/p>\n

At the time, the new Mark4 trains were still being tested and hadn\u2019t yet entered regular traffic.<\/p>\n
