In the last few months I\u2019ve been lucky to catch a variety of the more obscure operations on the Pan Am Railways system.<\/p>\n

Last week, Mike Gardner and I spent the afternoon around North Adams, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

EDRJ arrived with two locomotives to drop for\u00a0local freight AD-1.<\/p>\n

Although, we had high hopes of following EDRJ west toward the Hudson River Valley (uttering the now-famous battle cry, \u2018To the River!\u2019), Pan Am had other ideas.<\/p>\n

History will forgive them.<\/p>\n

So instead we followed AD1 down the old Boston & Albany North Adams branch to Zylonite.<\/p>\n

I was familiar with the run, since my father and I traveled over it back in October on the Berkshire Scenic RDC (see: Berkshire Scenic\u2019s Hoosac Valley\u2014A Dozen Photos!<\/a>)<\/p>\n

After a taste of this surviving segment of B&A\u2019s extension to North Adams, we followed the abandoned vestige of the line that runs southward to Pittsfield, then made the most of the late afternoon on the former B&A mainline!<\/p>\n
